Next Payments is Proudly Carbon Neutral

January 11, 2023

After commencing our journey towards net zero emissions in 2019, we are proud to announce that we reached our goal of becoming a carbon neutral company on December 14th, 2022. Throughout this journey, we have partnered with Carbon Neutral, a leading carbon offset provider with over 20 years experience in assisting businesses with strategies to reduce their climate impact.

To begin this journey, we worked alongside Carbon Neutral to calculate Next Payments’ total carbon emissions and then projected ways that this amount could be reduced. Here, Carbon Neutral helped us adopt a number of strategies and practices that have assisted in the reduction of our emissions, including:

  • Installing solar panels and energy efficient lighting
  • Partnering with a carbon neutral energy provider - EnergyAustralia’s Go Neutral
  • Sourcing eco-friendly and recycled supplies and materials
  • Educating our team on sustainable practises in the workplace and home
  • Engaging with suppliers to similarly reduce their emissions
  • Providing reusable drink bottles and mugs to employees

Any residual emissions were then offset in one of Carbon Neutral’s offsetting projects - the Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor. The Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor is a large-scale reforestation project that is restoring a landscape and preserving precious biodiversity in Western Australia, that simultaneously delivers environmental, economic, social and heritage co-benefits. Through this partnership, Next Payments has directly supported the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goal 6, 13 and 15

While we have achieved our goal of becoming carbon neutral, Next Payments' sustainability journey does not end here. We will continue to manage our environmental impact and seek out opportunities to make a positive difference. We are committed to setting an example for others in our industry by practising sustainability throughout all aspects of our business’ operations. We encourage all organisations and individuals to actively seek ways that they can reduce their carbon footprint.

We appreciate the support from both the Federal and State Government, plus all of Next Payments’ stakeholders throughout this journey.
